In a landmark move to enhance trade, investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship between India and Ireland, the Ireland-India Economic Advisory Panel was officially launched in Dublin by Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris.
The high-level panel brings together some of the most prominent Indian business leaders with deep connections to Ireland, including:
- Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, Trent and Tata Investment Corporation, and Managing Director of Tata International
- Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CEO of BIOCON
- Mohit Joshi, CEO of Tech Mahindra
- Murtaza Khorakiwala, Managing Director of Wockhardt
- Rajeev Mecheri, Co-founder of Invicara & TwinIt and Ireland’s Honorary Consul in Chennai
They were joined by senior representatives from key Irish government departments and agencies, reflecting the joint commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral engagement.
A Renewed Vision for Ireland-India Ties
Speaking at the launch event, Deputy Prime Minister Harris emphasized the historic depth and cultural connections between the two countries.
He noted:
“The scope for more economic links and trade between our two countries is enormous, and I am determined that we make every opportunity to avail of these. This initiative aligns perfectly with our Government’s Action Plan on Market Diversification to support opportunities for Irish business around the world.”
The public launch included a special panel discussion, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors.
High-Level Engagements and Cultural Connections
During their visit, the Indian business leaders comprising the panel met with the Prime Minister of Ireland, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, and also participated in a Business Roundtable hosted by Minister of State Neale Richmond.
The historic Trinity College Dublin also extended a warm welcome, with its President hosting a private dinner in honour of the visiting Indian dignitaries.
India’s Support and Shared Vision
India’s Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Shri Akhilesh Mishra, applauded the formation of the advisory panel and stressed the need for deeper cooperation between two of the world’s most vibrant democracies and fastest-growing economies. He underlined agritech, healthtech, sustainable technologies, and professional skilling as key areas of future collaboration, and expressed hope that the panel would act as a catalyst for sustainable B2B partnerships.
